The Rotary Divyang Kendra a unit of Rotary Delhi Central Charitable Trust sponsored by Rotary Club of Delhi Central has been established mainly to ‘alleviate the suffering of the differently abled’ which enables them to live a life of dignity and honour.

Inspired by Rotary’s objective of Community Service and Motto of ‘Service Above Self’, a humble beginning of the Rotary Divyang Kendra was made in the primary School building at Chitragupta Road, Paharganj, New Delhi. At the time of its inception, RDK was established in a 2 room premises, with a mission to provide Jaipur Foot to the needy Divyangs. At that time it was the only centre in the city.

Mr. H.L. Kapur, the then Hon’ble Lt. Governor Delhi, Inaugurated the Workshop of the Kendra in 1988 for manufacturing artificial limbs and providing them free to the Differently abled.

RDK was allotted space in the LNJP Hospital Dharamshala premises in the year 1992 and RDK continued to function in LNJP till 2004.

With the efforts and generous contributions from the hardworking members of the Trust, a plot of 600 sqm was got allotted to the Trust in Karkardooma Institutional Area from DDA.

The Physical possession of the land was taken on May 15, 1999, & the Foundation Stone of the multifaceted Rotary Viklang Kendra was laid by Smt. Sheila Dikshit, the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of NCT Delhi on June 22, 1999 in the presence of the then Finance Minister Shri. A.K. Walia.

The construction was started in 1999 and the present Kendra was inaugurated on 5th Dec 2002 alongwith celebrations of the World Disability Day (3 Dec) and it was inaugurated on 5th December, 2002 by Rotary International President BHICHAI RATTAKUL. RDK building is spread over 5 floors housing the facility for manufacture of limbs, Physiotherapy Center, Doctor’s chamber, Board Room and an Auditorium for meetings and conferences.

RDK, at the present address, became fully operational in the year 2004, after shifting from LNJP Hospital premises. The building has 4 floors and open space around it. A fully equipped Physiotherapy section was started in Jan 2005 to support the beneficiaries of artificial limbs as well as other patients.

To reach out to the needy, who are not able to visit RDK, a Mobile Van was commissioned on Sep 24, 2013, with the support of the Department of Social Welfare, Govt of Delhi for organis-ing Onsite camps in Delhi and NCR.
